Bret Bowers - BBTA Director

If you have been around Bret for any amount of time, you would know his four major passions in life are his faith, his family, tennis and his desire for helping his students discover their hidden potential in tennis and in life!

Bret, his wife Brenda and their 4 children, Caleb, Beckham, Denver & Max, currently reside in Sandy, Oregon.  Bret’s eldest son Caleb is a USTA Champs player and plays the number one position for his local High School in Sandy, Oregon.  Beckham, Denver and Max are all under 4 years of age, but Beckham and Denver have already begun to play tennis.

Bret was introduced to tennis by his father at the age of 15.  Completely and utterly taken in by the individual and competitive aspects of tennis, Bret was immediately hooked for life.

Bret played tennis his sophomore – senior years for Summerville High School in Summerville, SC.  Bret won the State tournament, for his division, during his sophomore and junior years in singles, but fell short of making it to the State tournament his senior year, losing out to his rival in the semi-finals.  At the end of his 1st year of USTA junior tournament competition, Bret was ranked #23 in the State.

His senior year, Bret was offered a scholarship to Central Florida Community College in Ocala, FL.  Central Florida was pre-season ranked #1 and the favorite to win the national team championship in 1985.  In 1985, the Patriots hosted the JCAA national tournament where Bret finished as a quarter-finalist at the number 2 singles position.  Bret’s team finished #5 in the nation, won the Florida State tournament and Bret’s freshman JCAA national year end ranking was #10.

From 1986 – 1988, Bret pursued his dream of playing on the professional tour after only 3 and a half short years of playing tennis.  Bret played on the USTA pro satellite tour through the end of 1987, but after a severe shoulder and bicep tear, from a weight lifting accident, Bret was stopped short of a professional playing career, however, Bret found his passion for teaching tennis instead.

Since then, Bret has taught tennis throughout the United States in places such as Florida, Georgia, New York, California and Oregon and held positions in the industry such as owner, tennis director, academy director, head professional and director of junior development.

Bret is a U.S.P.T.A. certified professional now with 22 years of tennis teaching, training and developmental experience.

Bret’s primary focus with his tennis academy is to create a desire in each child to become a “life-time student of the game” and to provide each player with the necessary tools they need to reach their fullest potential as a tennis player and as a person.

Bret would like to take this opportunity to WELCOME you to Bret Bowers Tennis Academy in Portland Oregon!

Donovan Ledoux - BBTA Tennis ProfessionalLedoux Serves It Up!

donovan@bbtennisacademy.org

Well, what can be said about Donovan Ledoux, he is a rain-man like brain child that is unbeaten in every board game known to man. If you are going to wager a bet against Donovan losing at a board game, here is a bit of advice.don't. Take it from some one who has experienced it, after losing for about the 10th time in a row, you'll get it! Donovan has a quirky and hilarious sense of humor, as you will soon discover, the more you are around him.

Donovan is a nasty left hander and a very, very advanced tennis player. Donovan is a former nationally ranked ping-pong player that converted to tennis age of 15. Donovan achieved a great deal in our sport in a very short period of time. Donovan was ranked #1 in the Boys 16's challenger singles rankings, then ranked in the top 20 PNW Boys 18's champs division in just 2 short years of playing tennis.

Donovan graduated from Mc Nary High School in 2005 with honors and played the #1 singles position for Mc Nary High School in Keizer, Oregon.

Donovan was recruited to play for Division III Willamette University Bearcats for the 2006/07 season. He played the #1 singles and #1 doubles position for Willamette University Bearcats where, as a freshman, he was voted 1st team ALL Northwest Conference honors.

After Donovan's freshman year, he was recruited by Division I Portland State University for the 2007/08 season. After a few matches into the 2008 season, Donovan decided not to continue to pursue a playing career, but is continuing to complete his degree, teach tennis and volunteer his time with the youth at his local church.

Donovan is a terrific young athelete and tennis player and we welcome him to our BBTA staff!
